Smart Cylinder Technology

The growing use of smart cylinder technology is arguably the most significant trend in

magnetostrictive-based sensor that senses rod position and generates an output that enables
continuous monitoring of the cylinder rod position.  The smart cylinder optimizes communication
between the machine and the cylinder, so the machine can be programmed to precisely instruct
the cylinder what actions to take. 

In agricultural applications, for example, a smart cylinder used in the steering mechanism can be
programmed to run on autopilot, using gps, while the operator receives cockpit feedback on cylinder
operation and extension via onboard computer.  It is similar to having a programmable controller
run the machine.
